2017 Rock Pile Red

Gold Medal Winner - 2019 All Canadian Wine Championships

Expressive notes of plum, black currant and dark roast coffee fill the glass and are complimented by a lifted savory note. On the palate this wine has great texture, but also sufficient acidity and fine tannin to allow it to age for several years.

Selected from different barrel lots originating from several sub-appellations, the components in this wine were selected based on their approachability and mid-palate. The wines were aged independently in mostly second and third-fill French oak barrels from select coopers for nine months so that the oak flavors on the final wine is a part of the wine, and not overwhelming.

The 2017 vintage in Niagara started off cool but a healthy canopy from mid-summer rains and a hot, dry fall resulted in flavorful red wines that are quite approachable in their youth.
