2010 Chardonnay Musqué

This is no typical Chardonnay, a gold medal winner at the 2011 All Canadian Wine Awards, the wine is unoaked and aromatic. A wonderful complement to Indian or Thai dishes, it also pairs well with seafood or grilled chicken with spicy BBQ sauce.

Pale straw in colour with expressive aromas of spiced apple, honeydew melon, orange marmalade, mixed fruit salad, and preserved peaches. Light-bodied and fresh on the palate, a touch of residual sugar with nice acidity and lasting flavours on the finish.

2010 Chardonnay Musqué

Winemaking Notes:

Selected from a plot of clone 809 (Chardonnay Musqué) vines planted in our Jack Rabbit Flats Vineyard. Harvested early in the fall to help retain the fresh aromatics without losing acidity, and to help keep the alcohol percentage at a moderate level in the final wine. The grapes were gently pressed after undergoing a few hours cold soaking on the skins in a sealed press. Cold settled under reductive conditions, then inoculated with a selected yeast strain once the juice warmed up to 10˚C, and fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel. The fermentation was halted with a touch of residual sweetness to balance the fresh acidity. Racked off its lees after fermentation and kept under reductive conditions, cold stabilized, filtered, and bottled early in 2011.

Awards and Accolades:

Gold Medal at 2011 All Canadian Wine Championships

Bronze Medal at 2011 Intervin International Wine Awards

Hey, Hey what can I say, I gotta bottle I wanna drink all day ... not exactly the Zepplin tune you remember but the lyrics fit (plus the real lyrics aren't printable in a family publication). At the Fielding New Wines Launch back in April, this little Musque stole the show. It's been 3 years since the musky Chard made an appearance on Fielidng's wine list and this is an excellent welcome back. The nose is adictively sniffable with floral, pear and troicpal notes wafting pleasantly out of the glass. Palate has pear, pineapple core and good acidity; but it's that nose that is such a lure. A titchy-touch of sweetness (1) brings this one home. So yummy.  Rating: ****+ - Michael Pinkus, Ontario Wine Review
